How to Access the Power BI Practice Datasets in the LMS

Every practice lesson in the Power BI course uses a dataset that is provided inside the LMS.

You do not need to download data from outside websites — everything you need is already included.

Follow the steps below to locate and use the datasets correctly.

Where the Datasets Are Located

Datasets are placed inside the lesson where they are needed.

So when you open a lesson that involves data practice, you will find a Download Dataset file attached below the lesson video/content.

Step-by-Step Access:

Step 1 — Open the Power BI Training Course

  • Go to My Courses → Select Power BI Training Course.

Step 2 — Go to the Lesson That Requires Practice

Lessons involving data preparation, data modeling, or visualization will have a dataset.

Examples:

  • Cleaning data in Power Query

  • Creating data models

  • Building dashboards

Step 3 — Look for the Dataset Download Section

Scroll below the lesson content/video.

You will see a Download link or file attachment such as:

  • .xlsx (Excel)

  • .csv (Comma-separated data)

  • .pbix (Power BI file, if required)

Click the file to save it to your computer.

Step 4 — Store the File Properly

  • Save the dataset in a fixed folder on your computer.

Example folder structure:

Power BI Practice >

    Module 1 Dataset

    Module 2 Dataset

    HR Analytics Dataset

    Finance Dashboard Dataset

Keeping all datasets in one place prevents Power Query path errors later.

Step 5 — Do Not Rename or Move the File After Loading

Once you load the dataset into Power BI:

  • Do not rename the file

  • Do not move the file to another folder

Power Query depends on the file path.
Changing the file location will break the connection.

If this happens by accident, simply:

  • Re-download the dataset

  • Re-load it again in Power Query

No need to worry — this is common and easy to fix.

Tips for Working With Datasets

Task

Recommendation

Before loading data

Always view the data once in Excel to understand the structure

While practicing

Keep your Power BI report file and dataset in the same folder

If you repeat lessons

Simply re-download; there is no limit
